Mountain View County will be hosting a bus tour that will make stops at 4 farms participating in Open Farm Days. The tour will stop at VanDenBroek Dairy and Huntcliff Dairy in the morning and Reese Cattle Company and HGB Bison Ranch in the Afternoon. Participants have the options of joining the morning tour, afternoon tour or both.
A BBQ will be held at the MVC office for all tour participants. There will be locally sourced foods provided by the Olds College Meat shop and Shirley’s Greenhouses. The meat provided by Olds College is grown on the college farm and raised humanely. All Olds College pork comes from lean pigs raised by Broekman Farms of Olds, Alberta. Our counter has all of the traditional pork cuts that you will find in any butcher shop, including chops, roast, ribs, bacon, ham and side pork. The vegetables provided from Shirley’s Greenhouses are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides. They have a 36,000 square foot greenhouse located east of Didsbury, Alberta. We grow two different types of cucumbers, eight types of tomatoes, eggplant, hot peppers, bell peppers, butter lettuce, and kale. We have also started growing field vegetables in the summer consisting of: potatoes, onions, beets, carrots, zucchini and lettuce.
Join us on August 18th or 19th when more than 100 farms, ranches and ag-tourism operators open their gates and invite visitors to share in local stories, see on-farm demonstrations and purchase locally grown and produced products.
