Northlands is proud to offer one of the host farms during Alberta Open Farm Days on Sunday, August 19, 2018. There are a number of opportunities available for you to see, taste, hear and smell Alberta including tours of the Northlands Urban Farm and tours to both Strathcona and Leduc Counties. In addition to the bus tours, Northlands will be offering tours of the Northlands Urban Farm (located at 79 Street & 113 Avenue) on the hour from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. (4 tours total) but attendees are also encouraged to wander at their leisure during the course of the day (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.)
Leduc County Full Day Bus Tour – $10 per person (plus $0.79 in applicable fees):
Departing from the Northlands Urban Farm at 9:30 a.m., the tour will visit Sunny Hill Alpacas & Twisted Sister Fibre Mill, Gruger Family Fungi and Rig Hand Distillery. Tour will return to the Northlands Urban Farm around 4 p.m. A light lunch will be provided and attendees are encouraged to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. Attendees will get to see demonstrations at Sunny Hill Alpacas and be able to purchase alpaca products, tour the Gruger Family Fungi facility to see innovative mushroom growing technology and end at Rig Hand Distillery for a tour and the opportunity to purchase product!
Strathcona County Morning Tour – $5 per person (plus $0.69 in applicable fees):
Departing from the Northlands Urban Farm at 9 a.m., the tour will visit Northline Farms & Jackson Homesteaders. Tour will return to the Northlands Urban Farm around 12:30 p.m. Lunch is not provided. Attendees will have the opportunity to make herbed vinegar at Northline Farms and explore the grounds of Jackson Homesteaders to see farm animals, freshly ground flour (from their home grown wheat), and honey harvested right on the farm.
Join us on August 18th or 19th when more than 100 farms, ranches and ag-tourism operators open their gates and invite visitors to share in local stories, see on-farm demonstrations and purchase locally grown and produced products.
